JOHN GRAYS SEA CANOE
PHANG NGA EXPEDITION EXPRESS SELF-PADDLE
(2D/1Nt)
Nga’s natural drama. Paddling Through the Bay
As an added value bonus, John wrote “The Nature Game” to turn your entire trip
into a fun learning game that increases your
awareness and doubles your value. Along the way, you might learn a few things
about Nature…and where we fit into the Movie.
Depart you Phuket hotel or airport at mid-day on Day One including the Starlight
trip and return to your Phuket hotel by 1730 on Day Two.
DAY ONE Phang Nga Bay has everything you want in a tropical wetlands
environment – majestic, bizarre peaks; thick, rich mangrove forests; caves and
inland lagoons; and bountiful wildlife from sparkling plankton to majestic sea
eagles and prankster monkeys. The best way to get intimate with these natural
treasures is in your own kayak, surrounded by our “Labor of Love” attention to
detail and proper kayaking.
Join the Hong By Starlight trip to get out to the Bay, where we show you the
caves and hongs from the safety and comfort of our
SOTAR inflatable caving kayaks. Then enjoy a hot buffet meal and Loi Kratong
ceremony before camping on a tropical beach.
The second day you paddle from camp on your own through the Bay in either single
or Cabo double Ocean Kayaks, paddling to a nearby village or back to one of our
day trip boats for the transfer to your hotel or the airport.
Be sure to go with Caveman’s Original team committed to international standard
quality and performance. Simon Warren joined John in 1990 and “Mus Bong” in
1991. Michael Dawson joined our 1992 Ha Long Bay expedition. Our average guide
seniority is nine years, guaranteeing nobody kayaks Phang Nga like John Gray’s
SeaCanoe.

comprehensive way to see the Bay.

As above but continue down the Peninsula to include Tarutao.
PLEASE NOTE: Thailand ranks 8 out of 10 ASEAN countries in respect for
intellectual property rights. Tour operators who know nothing about kayaking or
nature and just buy the cheapest bathtub toys.
Self-paddling is what real sea kayaking is all about, so pack everything in your
kayak and paddle into the unexplored unknown. No motor, no noise, no exhaust –
pure paddle power gets you where you want to go.
I never used escort boat in Hawaii's or Polynesia except on TV shoots. But when
I saw Phang Nga’s scattered islands we incorporated support boats into our
trips. Away from the caves we still paddle our own single or double Sit-On-Top
kayaks, so the “Mini-expedition” became wildly successful, but we never forgot
the hidden treasures of “inner” Phang Nga, a corner of the bay so packed with
limestone karst the compact dream world makes support boats irrelevant.
Phang Nga isn’t “unexplored” like Fiji or Moloka’i, but we do have our secret
spots even the locals don’t know – and certainly not our imitators. My favorite
is a 2K mangrove forest hidden between two 500meter cliffs. Paddling only kayaks
we can enter shallow water sites the escort boats cannot even consider. Away
from the heavy tourist traffic, wildlife still enjoys a peaceful life, and with
our expert and experienced guides and silent Sit-On-Tops, wildlife sightings are
frequent but never guaranteed. Tropical skies, Calm seas.
Everybody still wants to experience the caves and hongs, so either the first or
last day is our Starlight trip. The other two days are packed with paddling,
instruction, dry caving, natural history and secret mangrove paddles where our
guides know each different species and their medicinal uses. We even visit hongs
we don’t visit on our day trips.
If you want our Tropical Kayaking Intro Credential, we can adjust your itinerary
to include “classroom” stops and on-water instruction. You won’t see as much,
but you may graduate with a Tropical Kayaking credential that many operators
world-wide honor for rentals – and the setting can’t be beat.
You can schedule your trip to combine with Day 2 and 3 of our Mini-Expedition
and see the Krabi side of the Bay for a comprehensive five-day exploration. From
December to May you can join Day 2 of a Wings trip for a 9-day grand tour of
South Thailand’s stunning wetlands wonders from Phang Nga to Tarutao. Nine days
of stunning nature at an amazing value and amazing Nature.
TRIPS CAN RUN IN REVERSE ORDER DEPENDING UPON THE TIDES.
